Yolett McPhee-McCuin, affectionately known as “Coach Yo,” has rapidly ascended as one of the premier figures in women’s college basketball. Since taking the helm at Ole Miss in 2018, she has orchestrated a remarkable turnaround, transforming the Rebels from SEC cellar-dwellers into consistent NCAA Tournament contenders. Under her leadership, Ole Miss has achieved multiple Sweet 16 appearances, including a notable upset over No. 1 seed Stanford in 2023 and a victory against No. 4 Baylor in 2025.

Coach Yo’s impact extends beyond the court. Her commitment to defense and player development has been instrumental in the team’s success. Notably, she has cultivated a culture of resilience and discipline, leading to significant improvements in both offensive and defensive metrics.

Her achievements have not gone unnoticed by her peers. South Carolina’s head coach, Dawn Staley, a luminary in women’s basketball, has publicly defended and praised Coach Yo, highlighting her growth and the positive trajectory of the Ole Miss program.

Given her track record, leadership qualities, and the respect she commands within the basketball community, Coach Yo is often mentioned as a potential successor to high-profile coaching positions, including that of Dawn Staley, should such opportunities arise. Her blend of tactical acumen, player rapport, and program-building expertise positions her as a formidable candidate for any top-tier coaching role in the future.
