According to CaneSport, the Miami Hurricanes’ new defensive backs coach, Zac Etheridge, recently met with Zyan Gibson, a highly-ranked four-star cornerback committed to Alabama for the class of 2026. Etheridge, who was recently hired by Miami, reached out to Gibson, who has been committed to Alabama since December 24.
Gibson, ranked No. 72 nationally, is considered the seventh-best cornerback and the fourth-best player in Alabama, hailing from Gadsden City according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Miami had previously extended an offer to Gibson last May under the guidance of former defensive backs coach Chevis Jackson, who has since moved on to Wake Forest.
In the 2025 recruiting class, Miami signed three cornerbacks and added four transfers at the position for the upcoming season. Additionally, they secured a commitment from legacy player Camdin Portis for 2026. With a focus on strengthening their cornerback lineup, Miami can afford to be more selective in their 2026 recruitment efforts.
Among the incoming transfers, Michigan State’s Charles Brantley is the only cornerback who will have just one season of eligibility with the Hurricanes. Miami’s cornerback unit is projected to be deep for the next few seasons, and the Hurricanes are strategically attempting to flip Gibson’s commitment from Alabama by capitalizing on their strong position.
As Miami continues to build a formidable defensive back unit, the recruitment and potential flipping of Zyan Gibson could significantly bolster their future roster.
