One of the most poignant examples of Larkin’s reverence for the game’s greats is his relationship with the late Ted Lindsay, a Hall of Famer and four-time Stanley Cup champion with the Red Wings. Larkin first met Lindsay during his initial days with the team, recalling, “My first day in the locker room… Ted was walking around and shaking everyone’s hand. It was my first day there and I was already a bundle of nerves. And then I get to meet this hockey legend. I’ll never forget it.” This encounter left a lasting impression on Larkin, who admired Lindsay’s personable nature and genuine interest in others.
In 2018, Larkin deepened this connection by joining the Ted Lindsay Foundation as a board member and spokesperson. It’s something that isn’t about me. It’s about Ted and his family, and what he’s already started.”

That one, with how this season has gone, especially for Bert and with the position our team’s in now, it hurts. He’s one of my best friends.”

In recognition of his leadership qualities and humanitarian contributions, Larkin was named the Red Wings’ nominee for the 2022-23 King Clancy Memorial Trophy. Reflecting on his community involvement, Larkin remarked, “What we do on the ice is one thing. But anytime you get to go out to the community, show a presence and be with the kids – to see their smiles is awesome. This is what it’s all about.”
