Will Lions Quarterback Jared Goff play in the preseason…

As the NFL preseason approaches, the Detroit Lions have confirmed that starting quarterback Jared Goff will not participate in any of the exhibition games. Head coach Dan Campbell and the coaching staff have decided to prioritize Goff’s health and readiness for the regular season over preseason experience.

Goff, who has been a pivotal part of the Lions’ offense since his trade from the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, has shown consistency and leadership, making the decision to sit him out a strategic move aimed at preserving his health. Last season, Goff threw for over 4,400 yards and 29 touchdowns, establishing himself as a key player for Detroit’s offensive scheme.

The decision to rest Goff aligns with a growing trend among NFL teams, where veteran quarterbacks are often kept out of preseason games to avoid unnecessary risk of injury. For Goff, who is coming off a productive season, the focus will be on maintaining his fitness and fine-tuning his game in practice rather than in preseason matchups.

With Goff sidelined, the Lions will use the preseason to evaluate their backup quarterbacks. Nate Sudfeld and Hendon Hooker are expected to get significant playing time. Sudfeld, a veteran with previous NFL experience, and Hooker, a rookie with a promising college career, will be crucial in demonstrating their abilities and securing a spot on the roster or practice squad.

The Lions’ decision reflects their confidence in Goff’s readiness for the regular season and their commitment to ensuring his well-being. As the preseason games progress, fans will closely watch the development of Detroit’s backup quarterbacks and the overall preparation of the team for the upcoming NFL season.
