After leading Ohio State to a national championship in 2024, quarterback Will Howard didn’t hold back his excitement regarding the Buckeyes’ latest coaching decisions. The team secured the title with a victory over Notre Dame in the championship game, following playoff wins against Tennessee, Oregon, and Texas.
However, the offseason brought major changes, including the departure of offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, who accepted a new role with the Las Vegas Raiders after just one season in Columbus. In response, Ohio State opted for continuity, promoting wide receivers coach Brian Hartline to offensive coordinator and elevating Billy Fessler to quarterbacks coach.
Shortly after Fessler’s promotion was announced, Howard took to social media to express his excitement, posting an emphatic reaction: “Let’s goooooo.”
Fessler, who was an offensive analyst for the Buckeyes in 2024, has previous experience coaching quarterbacks at both UCLA and Akron. His impact on Ohio State’s offense last season was evident, as Howard thrived under his guidance, finishing the year with 4,010 passing yards, 35 touchdowns, and a stellar 73.1% completion rate. The Buckeyes’ offense flourished, averaging 37.2 points and 429.4 yards per game.
With Fessler now in charge of the quarterbacks and Hartline stepping into the offensive coordinator role, Ohio State is banking on internal promotions to maintain its offensive dominance heading into the 2025 season.
