Welcome back to Kentucky! The 7-footer from Lexington returns home to bolster Mark Pope’s frontcourt depth…

The Kentucky Wildcats have secured a key addition to their frontcourt with the commitment of 7-foot-1 center Reece Potter, a Lexington native transferring from Miami (OH).

On3’s Joe Tipton broke the news first.

A former Lexington Catholic standout, Potter returns to his home state after a promising sophomore season in the Mid-American Conference, where he helped lead the RedHawks to a 25–9 record and a trip to the MAC Tournament championship game. He appeared in 30 games, averaging 6.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in just 17 minutes per contest.

His offensive versatility stood out. Potter shot 46.6% from the field while showing the ability to space the floor, hitting 36.7% of his two 3-point attempts per game — a rare skillset for a player of his size. That combination of size, touch, and potential made him a priority target for Mark Pope, who continues to reshape Kentucky’s roster with experienced and high-upside talent.

Potter’s arrival is not just a homecoming — it’s a statement., and when asked about joining the Wildcats.

“It’s] time to hang number 9,” Potter tells A Sea of Blue.

His fit in Pope’s system could be seamless. With the new staff emphasizing spacing, shooting, and tempo, Potter offers a stretch big profile that could thrive in SEC play. His upside and local roots make him a compelling addition to Big Blue Nation’s 2024–25 campaign.

Welcome back to Kentucky!
