The Washington Huskies are in for an early-season test as they prepare to welcome the defending national champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes, to Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium on September 27, 2025.
For the second straight year, UW will host the reigning national champions, a rare and exciting challenge. Last season, the Huskies took down the Michigan Wolverines on their home turf. Now, they have another Big Ten powerhouse to contend with one led by head coach Ryan Day and a squad hungry to defend their title.
A Battle of Big Ten Heavyweights
This matchup isn’t just about two elite programs colliding; it’s a test of Washington strength as they continue to navigate life in the Big Ten. Facing back-to-back national champions in consecutive seasons is no small feat, but it’s the kind of high-stakes competition UW signed up for when making the jump to the conference.
The Huskies won’t have much time to ease into the challenge, either. This showdown with Ohio State comes in week five ”UW’s fourth game of the season ”immediately following a road trip to Pullman for the Apple Cup against Washington State. While a bye week two weeks prior offers some breathing room, it would have been ideal for Washington to have the extra rest right before facing a powerhouse like the Buckeyes.

Playing at home is a definite advantage, and Husky Stadium will be rocking as head coach Jedd Fisch and his team look to pull off another statement win. The big question? How ready will freshman quarterback Demond Williams Jr. be when he faces one of the most dominant defenses in the country?
