Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Details His Side’s Proposals in Contract Talks With Blue Jays

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the dynamic first baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays, has provided insights into his recent contract negotiations with the team. In a recent interview, Guerrero revealed that his side’s final proposal was for a 14-year deal valued at less than $600 million.

This offer comes in the wake of the New York Mets’ groundbreaking 15-year, $765 million contract with Juan Soto, setting a new benchmark for MLB contracts. Guerrero’s proposal, while substantial, falls short of Soto’s deal, suggesting a more conservative approach.

The Blue Jays, however, did not accept Guerrero’s proposal. This lack of agreement means that Guerrero is on track to become a free agent after the 2025 season, barring any new developments.

Guerrero’s performance continues to be impressive. In the previous season, he achieved a .323 batting average, hitting 30 home runs and accumulating 103 RBIs. Over his six-year career with the Blue Jays, he has maintained a strong batting line, solidifying his status as one of the league’s premier hitters.

As Guerrero approaches free agency, several MLB teams are anticipated to express interest in securing his services. Organizations such as the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, and San Diego Padres are among those likely to consider him a top target. The competition for Guerrero’s talent is expected to be intense, given his age, performance, and potential impact on any team.

The Blue Jays’ inability to finalize a contract extension with Guerrero has left fans and analysts speculating about the team’s future plans. The situation mirrors past high-profile free-agency scenarios, such as Aaron Judge’s experience with the Yankees in 2022, highlighting the challenges teams face in retaining star players amid competitive offers.

Looking ahead, Guerrero’s decision will significantly influence the MLB landscape. His potential move could reshape team dynamics, especially if he joins a franchise with existing star power, such as pairing with Aaron Judge on the Yankees. As the 2025 season unfolds, all eyes will be on Guerrero, monitoring his performance and any developments in his contract situation.
