Virginia Tech has officially landed a key addition to its basketball roster for the 2025–26 season with the commitment of UNLV transfer Jailen Bedford. The 6-foot-4 guard from Hutto, Texas, announced his decision on April 30, 2025.
Bedford’s college journey has been marked by steady growth and versatility. He began at Trinidad State Junior College, where he averaged 16.6 points per game over two seasons. He then transferred to Oral Roberts for the 2023–24 season, starting all 31 games and averaging 14.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest.
In the 2024–25 season at UNLV, Bedford appeared in 33 games, starting eight. He averaged 10.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, showcasing improved performance and consistency as the season progressed.
Virginia Tech head coach Mike Young expressed his enthusiasm about the transfer, praising Bedford’s resilience and experience. “We’re thrilled to have Jailen join the Hokies. His journey to this point has shaped him into a resilient and dynamic player,” said Young.
Bedford joins other transfers Amani Hansberry (from West Virginia) and Izaiah Pasha (from Delaware) on the Hokies’ revamped roster. He is expected to either start in the backcourt or provide a strong presence as a sixth man, adding depth and scoring ability to the team.
Coach Young and his staff are still active in the transfer portal, with roster spots open for additional recruits heading into the new season.
