Vikings’ WR Justin Jefferson Skips OTAs Amid Contract Extension Talks
Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson has been noticeably absent from the team’s organized team activities (OTAs), sparking speculation as contract extension negotiations continue behind the scenes. The absence, though not mandatory, comes as the All-Pro receiver enters the final year of his rookie deal.
Jefferson, widely regarded as one of the top receivers in the NFL, has set numerous records since being drafted in 2020. With three Pro Bowl selections and over 5,800 receiving yards already under his belt, the 25-year-old has made a strong case to become one of the highest-paid wide receivers in league history.
According to multiple reports, Jefferson and the Vikings front office have been engaged in ongoing talks about a long-term extension, but no deal has been finalized. While head coach Kevin O’Connell and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah have remained optimistic publicly, Jefferson’s OTA absence adds urgency to the situation.
“We’re confident we’ll get something done,” said O’Connell when asked about Jefferson’s status. “Justin is a big part of what we’re building here, and both sides understand the importance of making it work.”
Though voluntary, OTAs are typically used to install systems and build chemistry—especially important this offseason as rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy prepares to step into a leading role. Jefferson’s leadership and playmaking will be crucial in helping the young QB adjust to the speed and complexity of the NFL.
Still, the Vikings are treading carefully. They understand that Jefferson deserves a market-setting deal but also have to balance long-term roster needs, particularly as they enter a new era at quarterback.
For now, Jefferson’s absence looms large over spring practices, but optimism remains that Minnesota will secure their superstar with a contract reflective of his game-changing talent.
