The Minnesota Vikings have provided a significant injury update during their Organized Team Activities (OTAs), focusing on the status of newly acquired offensive guard Will Fries.
Head Coach Kevin O’Connell addressed the media from the TCO Performance Center, offering insights into the team’s current health status as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Will Fries’ Recovery Progress
Will Fries, who signed a five-year, $88 million contract with the Vikings in March 2025 after his tenure with the Indianapolis Colts, is making strides in his recovery from a fractured right tibia sustained in Week 5 of the 2024 season. Coach O’Connell noted that Fries is progressing well, stating that the team is optimistic about his availability for the start of training camp in late July.
Overall Team Health
Beyond Fries, the Vikings are monitoring several other players as they navigate the offseason. Key players such as offensive tackle Brian O’Neill (head), fullback C.J. Ham (ankle), defensive lineman Taki Taimani (ankle), wide receiver Rondale Moore (knee), and defensive back Mekhi Blackmon (knee – ACL) are all listed as questionable for the start of training camp. Additionally, offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw is recovering from ACL and MCL injuries and is also considered questionable for the beginning of camp.
Looking Ahead
The Vikings’ coaching staff remains hopeful that the majority of these players will be ready to participate fully in training camp. Coach O’Connell emphasized the importance of a healthy roster as the team aims to build on its recent successes and make a strong push in the upcoming season.
As the team continues its offseason program, updates on player recoveries and readiness will be crucial in shaping the Vikings’ strategy and roster decisions moving
