Utah Native and Hawaii Transfer Alvin Puefua Commits to BYU Football
The BYU Cougars have bolstered their defensive line with the addition of Alvin Puefua
Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 325 pounds, Puefua brings significant size and potential to the Cougars’ defensive front. After redshirting his freshman year at Hawaii, during which he appeared in two games, Puefua enters BYU with four years of eligibility remaining.
Puefua’s high school career in Utah was marked by impressive performances at Woods Cross High and later at West High School. As a senior, he recorded 48 tackles and two sacks, earning recognition as the 19th-best prospect in Utah’s 2024 class according to 247Sports.
BYU’s acquisition of Puefua is part of a broader strategy to enhance depth and talent on the defensive line. The Cougars have also added transfers Justin Kirkland from Oklahoma State, Keanu Tanuvasa from Utah, and Anisi Purcell from Southern Utah. With veterans like Tanuvasa and Kirkland expected to lead, Puefua will have the opportunity to develop and contribute to a formidable defensive unit.
Puefua’s commitment underscores BYU’s focus on strengthening its defense as the team prepares for the upcoming season. His return to Utah not only adds depth to the roster but also brings a homegrown talent back to the state, ready to make an impact for the Cougars.
