Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium is undergoing a significant transformation as West Virginia University prepares to debut a redesigned turf for the 2025 football season. The new surface aims to enhance the visual appeal of the stadium and align more closely with the university’s updated branding.
The most notable change is the introduction of two bold gold stripes flanking the end zones, which now feature the “West Virginia” and “Mountaineers” wordmarks in the university’s current font. This design mirrors the stripes on the team’s uniforms and marks the first time since the stadium’s opening in 1980 that the end zones will include more than just lettering .
Additionally, the blue turf that has characterized the end zones for nearly four decades will extend beyond the traditional 10-yard depth. This extension will reach approximately five yards past the end zones and continue along both sidelines to the 25-yard lines, creating a more cohesive and expansive field appearance .
The iconic gold Flying WV logo at midfield remains a central feature, though it will now be presented without the bold blue outline that previously surrounded it. Similarly, the white outline around the end zone lettering has been removed, contributing to a cleaner and more modern look .
These updates are set to debut on August 30, 2025, when the Mountaineers host Robert Morris in their season opener. The redesigned turf not only reflects the university’s evolving identity but also aims to provide fans and players with a visually striking and cohesive game-day experience.
