University of Tennessee and Head Football Coach Josh Heupel Agree on Contract Extension Through 2030
The University of Tennessee has announced that head football coach Josh Heupel has signed a contract extension running through January 2030 .
Heupel, who has spearheaded the Volunteers’ transformation into a national contender, has guided Tennessee to a 37–15 record over his first four seasons. Under his leadership, the team has notched 11 wins over Top 25 opponents, recorded the school’s first College Football Playoff appearance, and secured multiple double-digit win seasons .
Vice Chancellor and Athletic Director Danny White praised Heupel’s revitalization of the program, stating, “Josh has brought Tennessee Football back to its rightful place among the nation’s elite programs, and he and his staff have fostered a positive culture within the team. Our commitment to supporting Josh and his staff remains strong and unwavering.”
Financial terms of the deal keep Heupel’s salary at approximately $9 million annually, matching his previous extension . The extension also includes enhancements to his benefits: expanded personal use of university or charter flights—from five to ten per year for up to 30 flight hours—and modifications to his contractual buyout provisions .
