UF WR Tre Wilson is back, jacked and eager to make up for lost time with Gators

Eugene “Tre” Wilson III, a wide receiver for the Florida Gators, is making a strong comeback in the 2025 season after a challenging 2024 year marred by injuries. In his freshman year of 2023, Wilson showcased his potential by leading the team with six touchdown receptions and ranking second in both total receptions (61) and receiving yards (538).

The 2024 season, however, was less favorable for Wilson. He appeared in only four games, missing several due to a knee injury in September and later a hip procedure in November. Despite these setbacks, he managed to accumulate 266 receiving yards and one touchdown on 19 receptions, averaging 66.5 yards per game.

As the Gators entered spring practice in 2025, optimism surrounded Wilson’s recovery. Reports from early drills indicated his impressive physical transformation, with strength and conditioning coach Tyler Miles noting Wilson’s significant muscle gain, bringing him to a consistent weight of 190 pounds. Miles expressed that this increase in weight should enhance Wilson’s durability on the field.

Co-offensive coordinator Russ Callaway also praised Wilson’s progress, stating, “He’s doing very well. I tell you what, he’s put on some good weight, too.”

In the broader context of the Gators’ wide receiver lineup, Wilson’s return is pivotal. With the departures of key receivers Elijhah Badger and Chimere Dike to the NFL, the team is looking to new talents to step up. Wilson’s potential was highlighted by Pro Football Focus, which ranked him as the tenth-best returning wide receiver nationally for the 2025 season.

For the Gators to maximize their offensive capabilities, it’s essential to redefine Wilson’s role. While his speed and agility were previously utilized in short, motion-heavy plays, expanding his involvement to include more downfield routes could be beneficial. Adjusting his role in this manner may allow Wilson to fully realize his potential and contribute significantly to the team’s success in the upcoming season.

In summary, Tre Wilson’s return to form is a critical development for the Florida Gators. His recovery from past injuries, combined with his physical enhancements and potential for a more prominent role in the offense, positions him to be a key player in the 2025 season. Fans and coaches alike are eager to see how his contributions will shape the Gators’ performance in the forthcoming year.
