UCLA’s top-ranked women’s basketball team made history on Wednesday, securing a 65-52 victory over No. 8 Ohio State and extending their unbeaten streak to 22-0, the longest in school history. Lauren Betts delivered an impressive performance with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Gabriela Jaquez added 17 points to help the Bruins pull away in the fourth quarter. Kiki Rice also contributed 12 points to the win.
Ohio State, which entered the game with a 20-1 record, managed to tie the game at 44-all early in the fourth quarter. However, UCLA responded with a dominant 19-1 run, led by Jaquez’s nine points during the stretch. Betts also made history, recording her first career double-double by halftime with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Despite committing a season-high 23 turnovers, including 14 in the first half, UCLA’s rebounding dominance, particularly in the fourth quarter, helped them secure the victory. The Bruins out-rebounded Ohio State 13-2 in the final period, with Jaquez grabbing three of her six rebounds in the last 10 minutes.
Ohio State struggled offensively, shooting just 29.4% from the field, their lowest shooting percentage of the season. UCLA, still undefeated, will next face Oregon on Sunday, while Ohio State will take on No. 7 Southern California on Saturday.
