Alabama football’s head coach, Kalen DeBoer, is thrilled to have seasoned linebacker Deontae Lawson back for another year. Lawson, a Mobile, Alabama native, had his 2024 season cut short due to a lower-extremity injury, but still recorded an impressive 76 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks before his injury against Oklahoma in the tenth game of the season. Announcing his return to Alabama earlier this month, Lawson’s decision has been met with excitement.
DeBoer emphasized the significance of Lawson’s return, noting that the injury allowed Lawson to reflect and ultimately decide that coming back was the best course of action. Lawson is highly respected both in the locker room and by the fan base, making his return a significant boost for the team.
Lawson had considered declaring for the NFL but decided to stay in Tuscaloosa. He shared in an interview with the Crimson Tide Sports Network that he relied on his faith and intuition, along with discussions with his family, to make his decision. Lawson expressed that he doesn’t feel his story at Alabama is complete yet and believes he still has more to accomplish.
Lawson is expected to return to action during fall camp, bringing his leadership and skills back to the field for another season with Alabama.
