Transfer Saga Over: McNeese transfer wide receiver picks Oklahoma over Baylor, Vanderbilt

Jer’Michael Carter, a transfer wide receiver from McNeese State, has chosen to play for the Oklahoma Sooners, turning down offers from Baylor and Vanderbilt. The announcement was made on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

Carter, who stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 190 pounds, had a productive sophomore season at McNeese State in 2024, where he recorded 37 receptions for 537 yards and three touchdowns. His addition is expected to bolster the Sooners’ receiving corps, especially after Arkansas-Pine Bluff transfer Javonnie Gibson sustained a broken leg during spring practice.

Oklahoma has been actively looking to add size and depth to their wide receiver room through the transfer portal. Carter becomes the fifth transfer wide receiver to join the Sooners since the end of the 2024 season, joining Javonnie Gibson (UAPB), Isaiah Staegna (Arkansas), Josiah Martin (Cal), and Keontez Lewis (SIU).

Carter has two years of eligibility remaining and could potentially have a third year if he chooses to take a redshirt season. He is considered a three-star transfer prospect by 247Sports and was ranked as the No. 428 overall player in the transfer portal.

This move comes as Oklahoma prepares for their second season in the Southeastern Conference and aims to improve their passing game, which struggled in the 2024 season. Carter’s size and production at the FCS level are seen as valuable assets for the Sooners’ offense.

It’s worth noting that Gavin Freeman, a wide receiver who previously played for Oklahoma, transferred to Oklahoma State in 2024. He is expected to be a key contributor for the Cowboys in the upcoming 2025 season.
