Gophers Volleyball Welcomes Purdue Transfer Lourdes Myers

The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers volleyball program has bolstered its roster with the addition of graduate transfer middle blocker Lourdes Myers. Myers, a 6-foot-3 standout from Alliance, Ohio, joins the Gophers after spending four seasons at Purdue University. With one year of eligibility remaining, her arrival is expected to add significant experience and talent to the Minnesota front row as they look to compete at the highest level of the Big Ten Conference and beyond.

Myers brings a wealth of Big Ten experience to the Gophers. During her time with the Boilermakers, she played in three seasons after redshirting in 2021. She was an integral part of Purdue teams that consistently reached the NCAA Tournament, including Sweet Sixteen appearances in both 2023 and 2024, preceded by a Round of 32 showing in 2022.

Statistically, Myers has shown consistent improvement throughout her collegiate career. In her three playing seasons at Purdue, she averaged 1.31 kills per set with an impressive .342 hitting percentage, also contributing 1.0 blocks and 0.24 digs per set. Her senior season in 2024 was her most impactful, where she hit an efficient .356 while averaging 1.28 kills and 1.06 blocks per set. These numbers highlight her offensive capabilities and her strong presence as a blocker, which will be a valuable asset for the Gophers.

Minnesota head coach Keegan Cook expressed his enthusiasm about Myers joining the program. He noted that Myers was a top priority in the transfer portal, emphasizing her hard work, perseverance, and continuous improvement throughout her career. Cook also highlighted her remaining physical potential and her eagerness to learn and be coached, expressing his excitement in bringing Myers and the University of Minnesota together for her final collegiate season.

Her experience in a successful Big Ten program will undoubtedly bring leadership and a winning mentality to the Gophers’ locker room. Her positive attitude and eagerness to learn will also make her a valuable teammate.
