According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat or Minnesota Timberwolves could trade for Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant soon.
Durant has one year left on his contract.
“Really in the last 24, 48 hours, I’m told the focus of the Suns conversations has been on a few of the teams and here they are: the Houston Rockets, the Miami Heat and the Minnesota Timberwolves, I’m told,” Charania said on The Pat McAfee Show
Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Suns this season while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the free-throw line.
A future Hall of Famer, Durant has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns. The NBA legend was named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team in 2022.
Durant and Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards are close. They were teammates last summer on Team USA, helping the United States win the gold medal. Edwards has said many times that Durant is his favorite player of all time.
Rockets head coach Ime Udoka coached Durant in Brooklyn, while Durant and Heat star Bam Adebayo were teammates on Team USA last summer.
Durant won two championships and two Finals MVPs with the Warriors in 2017 and 2018. Since leaving Golden State, KD hasn’t even gotten back to the conference finals.
A four-time scoring champion, Durant doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract, but he and his camp are working with the Suns on a trade so he can land somewhere he wants to be.
