They’ll Regret Passing on Me’: Cardinals’ Will Johnson Issues Bold Warning to NFL Teams After Dramatic Slide in 2025 Draft

In a turn of events that surprised fans and analysts alike, standout cornerback Will Johnson slipped further than expected in the 2025 NFL Draft, ultimately landing with the Arizona Cardinals. Once projected as a top-10 pick, Johnson watched as his name remained on the board well into the second round, fueling both disappointment and determination. Now, with a chip on his shoulder and a point to prove, Johnson has a clear message for the teams that passed him up: “They’ll regret it.”

The former Michigan Wolverine was widely considered one of the top defensive backs in the draft class, known for his lockdown coverage, elite ball skills, and leadership on and off the field. Many scouts praised his size, instincts, and fluid movement, comparing him favorably to some of the NFL’s top corners. So when Johnson slid into the 40s before finally being selected by the Cardinals, questions immediately arose.

“I know what I bring to the table,” Johnson told reporters shortly after being drafted. “I’m not here to make excuses or complain. But I watched teams pass on me for guys I know I’ve outplayed, and I took that personally. I’m going to make sure every single one of them remembers that decision.”

Sources close to several front offices cited minor concerns over Johnson’s injury history and his performance in a couple of late-season games as reasons for hesitation. However, Johnson insists that he’s fully healthy and that the draft slide has only fueled his motivation to dominate at the next level.

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon didn’t hesitate to express confidence in his new defensive weapon. “Will’s a competitor. He’s going to come in here with a hunger you don’t teach. We know what we got—a first-round talent who’s ready to prove he’s elite.”

Arizona, in the midst of a rebuild, sees Johnson as a foundational piece for its young defense. With a secondary that struggled in 2024, his arrival brings not only skill but swagger. Johnson is already drawing praise from veteran teammates for his maturity and work ethic during rookie minicamp.

Fans of the Cardinals are hopeful that the league’s oversight becomes their franchise’s gain. If Johnson’s college tape and attitude are any indication, they may have found a cornerstone player with the fire to lead their defense for years to come.

As for Johnson, his mission is clear.

“I’ve always believed in betting on myself,” he said. “They doubted me, but that’s okay. I’ll make them remember. I’m going to show the world why I should’ve been a top pick.”

Only time will tell if Johnson’s words come true, but one thing is certain—the 2025 season just got a lot more interesting.
