The University of Arkansas has announced that it will erect a statue honoring Razorbacks basketball legend Corliss “Big Nasty” Williamson outside Bud Walton Arena. This tribute celebrates Williamson’s extraordinary legacy, highlighted by leading the Razorbacks to the 1994 NCAA National Championship and earning the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player honors.
The statue will stand as a permanent symbol of Williamson’s impact on the program and college basketball history. The unveiling is set to align with a special event during the upcoming basketball season, offering fans a chance to celebrate the legendary forward.
Williamson not only dominated in college but also enjoyed a successful NBA career, including winning a title with the Detroit Pistons in 2004. He later returned to Arkansas as an assistant coach, further strengthening his connection to the program.
Recently, he and fellow Razorback great Joe Johnson announced a multi-million dollar endowment to support Arkansas basketball, focusing on facility upgrades, academic services, and scholarships for student-athletes.
The statue will serve as a powerful reminder of Williamson’s achievements and his enduring contribution to Razorback basketball.
