The Saints are reportedly targeting a standout Georgia Bulldogs player as a potential draft pick for their 2025 roster.

As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, the New Orleans Saints are reportedly eyeing a standout player from the Georgia Bulldogs, a program known for consistently producing NFL-ready talent. While the Saints are looking to revamp their roster and build toward a more competitive season, sources close to the organization suggest they are particularly focused on Georgia’s elite defensive end, Mykel Williams, as a potential first-round pick.

Williams has been a dominant force for the Bulldogs, known for his explosive pass-rushing abilities, athleticism, and high football IQ. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing around 265 pounds, he fits the mold of the modern NFL edge rusher — quick off the line, with the strength to take on offensive tackles and the finesse to pursue elusive quarterbacks. In the 2024 season, Williams tallied double-digit sacks and numerous tackles for loss, drawing national attention and All-SEC honors.

For the Saints, targeting a player like Williams makes strategic sense. In recent seasons, the team’s pass rush has lacked consistency. Veteran defensive ends like Cameron Jordan have been reliable leaders, but with age becoming a factor, the Saints are in need of a youthful injection of energy and talent on the defensive line. Williams could not only serve as a long-term replacement for Jordan but also elevate the defense immediately with his versatility and motor.

Defensive coordinator Joe Woods has emphasized the need for a disruptive presence on the edge to complement the Saints’ interior linemen and create pressure without excessive blitzing. Williams’ ability to play both in a traditional four-man front or as a stand-up rusher in hybrid packages would give Woods valuable flexibility in his schemes.

Beyond his on-field skills, Williams brings leadership qualities that teams covet. Coaches at Georgia have praised his work ethic, attention to detail, and drive to improve — all traits that align with the Saints’ culture. His background in a program as competitive as Georgia’s also suggests he’s ready to step into a high-pressure environment like the NFL and contribute right away.

Of course, much can change between now and the draft. The Saints may also be evaluating other needs such as offensive line depth, wide receiver options, or even a long-term answer at quarterback. However, if Williams is available when New Orleans is on the clock, it would be hard for the franchise to pass up a player with such a high ceiling and immediate impact potential.

Ultimately, the Saints’ interest in Mykel Williams signals a clear intent to strengthen their defense and return to the form that made them a playoff contender in previous years. While nothing is finalized until draft day, fans in New Orleans can begin to imagine what the future might look like with a rising star from Athens anchoring their defensive front.
