The Next Wave: How Alabama’s Freshmen DBs Are Set to Redefine the Secondary

Alabama’s secondary is gearing up for an exciting 2025 season with the return of four out of its five starters. Cornerbacks Zabien Brown and Domani Jackson, along with safeties Keon Sabb and Bray Hubbard, will bring experience and stability to the lineup. During the 2025 recruiting cycle, the coaching staff focused on boosting depth and flexibility in the defensive backfield.

To achieve this, they’ve welcomed three promising freshmen: Ivan Taylor Jr., Chuck McDonald, and Dijon Lee Jr.

Dijon Lee Jr. stands out with his remarkable size and agility. At 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, he possesses the physical attributes and a track background that make him a unique talent among college cornerbacks. His rare skill set may allow him to secure playing time right from his freshman year.

Chuck McDonald is another highly-regarded recruit. Hailing from Mater Dei High School, he has honed impressive technique and coverage skills. At 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, McDonald also boasts a track background. He is expected to contribute behind his former teammate Zabien Brown in 2025 and might even be utilized in multiple positions due to his versatility.

Ivan Taylor Jr. was initially committed to Michigan, but Alabama successfully flipped the Florida native. Taylor Jr. can play various positions in the secondary, including STAR and both safety spots. The coaching staff is eager to see how his talent will be deployed.

With these talented freshmen joining the ranks, Alabama’s secondary is poised to be a formidable unit in the upcoming season. The trio will undoubtedly make their mark as they compete for playing time and aim to shine in the spring.
