Lake Belton Wide Receiver Davion Peters Commits to Baylor: Bears Land Electrifying In-State Talent
In a major recruiting win for Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears, Lake Belton High School standout wide receiver Davion Peters has officially committed to Baylor University. The dynamic pass-catcher announced his decision via social media on Sunday afternoon, choosing the Bears over a host of other Power Five suitors, including TCU, Texas Tech, and Missouri.
Peters, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound speedster from Temple, Texas, has long been considered one of Central Texas’ top offensive weapons. With blazing 4.4 speed, crisp route-running, and elite ball-tracking skills, he quickly emerged as a priority target for Baylor’s 2025 class. His commitment gives the Bears a crucial boost in their offensive recruiting, and reinforces their efforts to keep top in-state talent close to home.
A Game-Changer on the Field
As a junior in 2024, Peters lit up defenses across the Lone Star State, finishing the season with 1,128 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on 71 catches. Whether he was stretching the field on go-routes or carving up defenders on underneath slants and screens, Peters proved nearly impossible to cover one-on-one. His film is filled with acrobatic sideline grabs, yards-after-catch explosions, and clutch plays in key moments.
“He’s just different,” said Lake Belton head coach Brian Cope. “Davion brings energy, leadership, and elite playmaking. Baylor’s getting a competitor who wants the ball in big moments.”
Peters also contributed on special teams, averaging over 25 yards per kick return and even returning two punts for touchdowns. His versatility and toughness make him a natural fit in Baylor’s evolving offensive scheme, which is expected to lean more on dynamic receiver play under new offensive coordinator Jake Spavital.
A Win for the Bears’ Recruiting Class
Peters becomes the seventh commitment in Baylor’s 2025 recruiting class and the second wide receiver, joining fellow Texan Jeremiah Hall from Houston. His pledge is especially important given Baylor’s need to restock its wide receiver corps, with several upperclassmen likely to graduate or test the NFL waters over the next two years.
For Baylor, landing Peters isn’t just about talent—it’s also about geography. Keeping a blue-chip playmaker from just 40 miles up the road speaks volumes about the Bears’ growing influence in Central Texas. Aranda and his staff have made the region a recruiting priority, and Peters could be a centerpiece in that local pipeline.
“I’ve built a strong relationship with Coach Aranda and Coach Spavital,” Peters said in his announcement. “They believe in me, and I believe in what they’re building in Waco. I’m staying home and I’m ready to help Baylor win championships.”
Looking Ahead
With his college decision made, Peters plans to focus on his senior season at Lake Belton, where he’ll look to lead the Broncos on a deep playoff run. Meanwhile, Baylor fans can start dreaming of what’s to come: Peters in green and gold, electrifying McLane Stadium, and continuing the tradition of standout Baylor wide receivers.
If his high school career is any indication, Davion Peters is just getting started.
