The Texas Longhorns baseball team has climbed to the No. 1 spot in the national rankings for the first time since 2022, boasting an impressive 30–5 overall record and 13–2 in SEC play. This marks their best 35-game start since 2004.
Under the leadership of new head coach Jim Schlossnagle, the Longhorns have become a disciplined powerhouse. They currently average 4.08 pitches per plate appearance, ranking second nationally—highlighting their strategic approach at the plate.
Despite battling injuries to key players like Ethan Mendoza and Max Belyeu (last year’s Big 12 Player of the Year), the Longhorns remain strong and focused. Upcoming matchups are generating major buzz, especially a home series against No. 8 Auburn from April 17–19—the first time these teams meet in Austin since 1912. Another key series will be against Schlossnagle’s former team, Texas A&M, from April 25–27.
Recently, the Longhorns dominated UTRGV with an 11–4 win. Center fielder Will Gasparino drove in four runs, and catcher Rylan Galvan reached base in all four plate appearances, adding three RBIs.
With the NCAA postseason tournament set to begin in late May and the College World Series looming in June, all eyes are on Texas. The team’s depth, resilience, and elite coaching are driving them forward as they prepare for their toughest stretch yet.
