Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte announced on Wednesday a projected $30-million increase in costs for Longhorns’ athletic programs
The plan, which will add 200 scholarships across both men’s and women’s sports and incorporate the sharing of publicity rights, comes ahead of the April 7 “House vs. NCAA” settlement approval hearing. The settlement received preliminary approval by Judge Claudia Wilken and is expected to do two things: Provide $2.77 billion in backpay to former college athletes to be distributed over a decade.
Allow schools to spend money on its athletes through a revenue-sharing concept with a spending cap of an initial $20.5 million for the 2025-26 school year, including the paying athletes for using their name, image and likeness.
