Should Miami Re-Sign Alec Burks? Absolutely.

Alec Burks quietly became one of Miami’s most underrated moves of the 2024 offseason—and re-signing him in 2025 should be a no-brainer.

Brought in on a veteran minimum deal, Burks posted a highly efficient 42.5% from three and 60.4% true shooting across 25 games. That kind of spacing is golden in Erik Spoelstra’s offense, especially when paired with playmakers like Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro. While the counting stats—7.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists—don’t leap off the page, Burks did exactly what Miami needed: stayed ready, hit timely shots, and never complained about his role.

When Dru Smith went down for the season, Burks stepped up. By the end of the year, he was starting in the backcourt, showing his adaptability and professionalism. That kind of plug-and-play reliability is exactly what Heat Culture thrives on. He doesn’t need the ball, doesn’t need minutes guaranteed—he just needs a jersey.

And at 33, he’s still got juice. He provides floor spacing, smart off-ball movement, and calm decision-making—all at the price of $3.3 million. Whether Miami makes a big move for a star, revamps the bench, or leans into youth, Burks fits.

Re-signing him wouldn’t block anyone’s development, nor would it impact the salary cap in a meaningful way. In fact, Burks’ presence only helps. Young players can learn from his demeanor and preparation, and contenders need guys who can deliver in spot minutes without shaking the chemistry.

Miami got a steal last year. No need to overthink it—run it back with Alec Burks.
