Sheffield Wednesday player makes “unbelievable” Danny Rohl accusation amid leave speculation.

Josh Windass is full of praise for the German head coach amid talk that he could leave Hillsborough soon.

  • Sheffield Wednesday’s recent success under German coach Danny Rohl has brought positivity to the club as they fight to avoid relegation.
  •  Rohl’s coaching style and knowledge of the game has impressed players like Josh Windass, who claims he is the best coach he’s ever had.
  •  Rohl could play a key part in keeping Windass at the club considering the latter’s comments.

Sheffield Wednesday continue their pursuit of pulling off what was deemed as a miraculous escape from relegation when German head coach Danny Rohl walked through the door at Hillsborough this weekend.

Since Rohl’s arrival on October 13th, the Owls have recorded all six of their Championship league victories as well as progressing into the FA Cup Fourth Round with a 4-0 demolition of fellow second-tier outfit Cardiff City in early January.

Whilst at times the side have continued to show their inconsistencies, at last there seems to be some positivity surrounding the club as they currently breathe down the necks of Huddersfield Town and former boss Darren Moore.

In fact, Rohl has accumulated one more point than Moore in their respective new tenures, despite starting in the Hillsborough dugout 22 days later to give his side a fighting chance in the relegation battle.

Josh Windass makes “unbelievable” claim on Danny Rohl

Under previous boss Xisco Munoz, Wednesday were rarely competitive in games, which included those in which they were beaten in narrow scorelines.

Although Rohl is still in his own managerial infancy, the pedigree that followed him through coaching roles at Southampton, Bayern Munich and the German national team was still met with excitement, and the 34-year-old’s knowledge of the game has clearly rubbed off on his chargers.

Back in November, club captain Barry Bannan claimed that Rohl is “destined for the top”, and those sentiments have been echoed by fellow senior figure Josh Windass.

“He’s not really spoken to me individually that much, but the way he sees football and coaches football is the way I see it,” Windass told the Sheffield Star.

“He’s the best coach I’ve ever had by far and the way he sees football and explains it with Henrik (Pedersen) and the staff, I think they’re unbelievable to be honest at what they do.

“I said when he first got the job, if it’s good enough for Thomas Muller, then it’s good enough for us!

“He shows us clips of Bayern Munich now, they’re a far better team but the ideas and stuff is the same.

“He’s taught us a lot and it’s all stuff that’s right. It’s nice to have someone come in who shares your belief in how football should be played.

Josh Windass’ immediate future at Sheffield Wednesday

Whilst the German continues to make an impression on the likes of the 30-year-old, Windass is one man whose immediate future in S6 is yet to be decided.

Both of his goals this season have come during Rohl’s tenure, in the midst of varying absences from the side because of injury.

However, this hasn’t deterred interest from clubs in the MLS and Argentina – the most recent report from The Athletic’s MLS and USMNT reporter Tom Bogert claims that Real Salt Lake are keen on Windass, who is out of contract in the summer.

However, no official offer has been put on the table yet.

It was reported earlier in January by Sky Sports that Club Atlético Talleres had rekindled their interest in Windass, having been unsuccessful with a six-figure bid for his services back in 2022.

Josh Windass could be pivotal in Sheffield Wednesday’s survival bid

Whilst his off-pitch situation continues to cause uncertainty, Windass’ experience could be a pivotal aspect in Wednesday’s bid for survival.

Despite only recording two goals and one assist, there is ample time for the former Rangers man to boost those numbers and consolidate the Owls’ position in the Championship.

It’s undoubtedly a difficult decision for both parties, but it remains to be seen whether Wednesday cash in on his services in the window or risk losing all chances of recouping some funds, as no contract offer from the Owls is yet to be agreed.

Rohl could play a major part in keeping Windass at the club considering the latter’s comments, with the player likely to majorly benefit from his manager’s wisdom whilst they’re still working together.

Rohl’s side face an upcoming double-header against Mark Robins’ in-form Coventry City side, having also been drawn against each other in the FA Cup next weekend.

Off the back of a 4-0 defeat at Southampton last time out, Wednesday will be looking to record a second successive home win against a play-off chasing side, having defeated Hull City 3-1 in their last Championship outing at Hillsborough.
