During his weekly press conference on Monday, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian expressed confidence that junior wide receiver Xavier Worthy and sophomore right guard DJ Campbell would be available for Friday’s regular-season finale at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Sarkisian remarked, “That was a physical game Saturday night.” A number of our guys lost their lives. None of those guys are going out on Friday, in my opinion. I’m confident enough today that everyone who was available on Saturday night will be available on Friday night, but we’ll still need to keep an eye on it throughout the week.
After suffering an injury in the first half of the game against Iowa State, sophomore Cole Hutson took Campbell’s spot at right guard, despite he continued to play while still on the pitch. Worthy appeared to have injured his left leg when he departed the game.
Several other players were also injured in Ames. These included junior tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders, who limped off the field after landing awkwardly on a catch in the second quarter and returned for the second half, and freshman running back CJ Baxter, who left the field before halftime with what appeared to be a back ailment before returning and finishing the game with 117 rushing yards, a career high.
Jalen Catalon, the senior safety for Texas, made his return against Iowa State. The Arkansas transfer had not played since sustaining a leg injury in the Cotton Bowl defeat to Oklahoma, but he did manage one tackle on Saturday.
