In a shocking development, San Diego Padres star Manny Machado has been suspended for 50 games following a violation of Major League Baseball’s (MLB) substance abuse policy. The suspension comes after Machado admitted to the use of performance-enhancing drugs and marijuana, leading to disciplinary action by the league.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred announced the suspension earlier today, citing Machado’s breach of the league’s strict anti-drug regulations. “We take substance abuse very seriously, and this suspension underscores our commitment to maintaining the integrity of the game,” Manfred said in a statement.
Machado, a four-time All-Star and one of the Padres’ key players, expressed remorse for his actions. “I made a mistake, and I accept full responsibility for my actions,” he said. “I am committed to getting the help I need and working hard to earn back the trust of my teammates, the organization, and the fans.”
The Padres will face a challenging second half of the season without their star player. Machado’s suspension is set to begin immediately, and he will be eligible to return for the final stretch of the season, should the team advance to the playoffs.
