The Cincinnati Bengals’ season appeared to be hampered by injuries to key players on their offense in 2023, and they never really got off the ground. The most serious of those was a calf ailment that Joe Burrow sustained during training camp and carried into the season. By the time he had recovered, his season had been cut short by a surgically repaired torn wrist ligament.
Zac Taylor, the head coach of the Bengals, said that Burrow’s recuperation is going well.
Taylor stated, “It’s positive,” as reported by ESPN. “It’s right on schedule, and so we’re encouraged with everything we thought it was going to be and where he’s going to fit into our offseason.”
Burrow stated earlier this month that he anticipated becoming prepared to participate completely in the spring offseason program. According to ESPN, Burrow stated, “I think I am expecting to kind of be cleared for full contact and everything around the middle of May.” “Over the next month [to] month and a half, we’ll kind of decide all those things.”
Things will be very different for Burrow than they have been in the past when he does return to the field. Trent Brown is his new right tackle. After trading Joe Mixon to the Texans, the team acquired Zack Moss as their new running back. Dan Pitcher, a longtime quarterbacks coach, has taken over as his offensive coordinator. Brian Callahan was hired head coach of the
Tennessee Titans.Additionally, he might or might not have wide receiver Tee Higgins, who Burrow signed with in 2020 after Higgins asked to be traded rather than have his contract extended. Although the Bengals have stated unequivocally that they intend Higgins to play for them next season, anything may happen around draft time. In any case, the plan is for Burrow to be at Cincinnati for a long time, supporting the club through transitions similar to the ones they’ve experienced this summer.
