When Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray returned from a torn ACL in the middle of the season, there was a noticeable uptick in output. The quarterback was able to show that his 2022 knee injury was behind him, even though he had to adjust his footwork and learn a new offensive strategy under a new coach. Head coach Jonathan Gannon thinks Murray’s potential is unlimited because he has an entire offseason dedicated to football rather than rehabilitation.
At the owners’ meetings on Tuesday in Florida, Gannon told reporters, “We changed his stance on how he took the snap and he took to it.” “Now that he knows the “why,” he enjoys it, but he plans to bank all those reps come springtime.
“Considering how well he’s played, it’s interesting to argue that his best football is yet ahead of him. I firmly believe that he will continue to improve.
Murray’s 1,799 yards and 10 touchdowns to five interceptions on a 65.6% passing yardage last season led to a 3-5 record. On 44 carries, he added 244 yards and three touchdowns.
But what really had Gannon and Cardinals supporters excited about the future was Murray’s and the team’s last four-game stretch.
Murray was a major contributor to an explosive offensive finale for an Arizona team that led the league in total offense (414.3 yards per game) during the season. He completed 70.3% of his tosses for 935 yards and seven touchdowns to three picks.
Even if that kind of finish didn’t result in more victories than defeats, considering the quarterback’s background, it did give fans a lot more faith in Murray’s ability to guide the revamped offense in the future.
Having said that, there will be a lot more work and adjustments to be performed during the next offseason.
Gannon is quite excited.
“We want to explore some things that we think he can handle, which is why I’m really excited about spring and getting to go through spring and then training camp with him,” the head coach remarked. He mentioned a few things he would like to see included, things he finds comfortable and appealing.
