Ohio State football is coming off an impressive 2024 season, capped by a national championship and a four-game winning streak that carried them through the College Football Playoff. Now, with the 2025 season ahead, head coach Ryan Day is looking to build on that success and set his sights on a significant milestone inspired by legendary Ohio State coach Woody Hayes.
Speaking to TNT’s Ernie Johnson and Charles Barkley on Monday, Day revealed his ultimate goal: to become the next Ohio State head coach to win multiple national championships. Hayes, who led the Buckeyes to national titles in 1954, 1957, and 1968, is the last OSU coach to achieve this feat, and Day is determined to follow in his footsteps.
Woody Hayes is the last one to win multiple national championships at Ohio State, Day said. That’s something I’ve now set for myself. To be the next head coach to win multiple championships at Ohio State.
Day acknowledged that there’s still much work to be done but expressed confidence in his ability to bring the program to new heights. The Buckeyes recruiting class for 2025 is already off to a strong start, with two five-star prospects committed: quarterback Tavien St. Clair from Bellefontaine, Ohio, and cornerback Devin Sanchez from Houston, Texas.
With a clear goal in mind and a talented roster on the horizon, Day is ready to take Ohio State football to the next level and make history in the process.
