RUMOR MILL EXPLODES: Kevin Durant Traded to the Golden State Warriors

Phoenix Suns Trade Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors

The Phoenix Suns are in an interesting spot as well for the 2025 NBA offseason as they fell short of expectations once again, this time around missing the playoffs completely. It’s clear that their “big three” of Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker isn’t working, and they need to have a reset. The Golden State Warriors saw themselves get eliminated from the NBA Playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves as they lost their series 4-1. As soon as Steph Curry suffered a hamstring injury the series took a turn, and the Warriors never recovered from him not being out on the court.

While they made a significant trade for Jimmy Butler at the NBA Trade Deadline, it wasn’t enough to take him over the top. Golden State needs to move away from their small-ball lineup if they plan to try and win one more ring for Steph Curry. How they can do so is by trading for Kevin Durant. For the Suns, trading Kevin Durant makes the most sense as he is 36, and will be turning 37 years old in September. The Suns need a youth infusion in the team, and need to commit to a rebuild, that is something that Durant can’t go through at this stage in his career, and needs to put himself in a spot where he can also win a championship one last time before he retires.

Despite his age, Kevin Durant still averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game over the course of last season. The Warriors tried to trade for Durant at the NBA Trade Deadline, but were unable to successfully do so. After how the Suns’ season ended it could create the opportunity for the Warriors to get the deal done this time around.

Getting Kevin Durant back in the team would be crucial for the Warriors. After Durant spent three seasons on the Warriors from 2016-2019, he was able to create a camaraderie with Steph Curry and Draymond Green when he played with the two. The last time Durant was on the team he helped them win back-to-back championships in 2017 and 2018, and also made the playoffs in all three seasons.

Trading for Kevin Durant back would provide a major boost to the Golden State Warriors and help fix areas of their roster that they struggled in, and get better size as a rim protector on the roster. And for the Suns, they get a restart for their roster as well
