Razorback Nation, rejoice! The University of Arkansas is etching basketball greatness into forever with the announcement of a statue honoring legendary forward Corliss “Big Nasty” Williamson

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Razorback Nation, rejoice! The University of Arkansas is etching basketball greatness into forever with the announcement of a statue honoring legendary forward Corliss “Big Nasty” Williamson—a hero whose impact on the court and in the hearts of fans still echoes through Bud Walton Arena.

In a moment decades in the making, Williamson—the powerhouse who led the Hogs to their historic 1994 NCAA National Championship—will be immortalized with a permanent statue outside the arena he helped make famous. It’s a tribute not only to his on-court dominance but to his enduring legacy as a symbol of grit, heart, and Razorback pride.

“Corliss Williamson is more than just a basketball legend—he’s an Arkansas icon,” said University officials in the announcement. “This statue is our way of saying thank you for inspiring generations of athletes and fans.”

Known for his bruising style, relentless hustle, and unshakable presence in the paint, Williamson earned the nickname “Big Nasty” for a reason—and it stuck. His leadership in 1994 not only brought Arkansas its first and only national basketball title but also ignited a golden era of Razorback hoops that remains unmatched.

Following his college success, Williamson enjoyed a decade-long NBA career—including an NBA Championship with the Detroit Pistons—before returning to coach and mentor players at both the collegiate and professional levels. His off-court influence has been just as powerful, known for giving back to the community and staying deeply connected to Arkansas.

The statue, which is set to be unveiled later this year, will stand as a beacon of inspiration for every fan who walks through the doors of Bud Walton Arena—a bold reminder that greatness can be homegrown, hard-earned, and never forgotten.

Razorback fans, get ready to witness history once again. The legacy of “Big Nasty” is now cast in bronze.
