Plymouth Argyle have confirmed that Aston Villa have recalled Kaine Kesler-Hayden from a loan spell with the club.
The 21-year-old went to Home Park in the summer, signing a season-long loan with the club. The right-back has been a regular in Plymouth’s starting XI and made a total of 27 appearances in all competitions.
He was named in the starting line-up for the side’s 1-1 draw with former loan club Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon, where he played in a more advanced right midfield position. He was substituted after 66 minutes in what proved to be his final game in a Plymouth shirt.

Plymouth confirmed that he had returned to Villa on Sunday. “Defender Kaine Kesler-Hayden will return to his parent club Aston Villa after the Midlands side exercised a recall option in his contract,” a statement on the club’s official website read.
“The 21-year-old has made 27 appearances for Argyle since joining at the end of June. We thank Kaine for his efforts since he joined the club and wish him all the best for the future.”
The loan with Plymouth is Kesler-Hayden’s fourth temporary spell away from Villa Park. He spent six months with Swindon Town between August 2021 and January 2022, before joining MK Dons for the second half of the campaign.
The full-back then spent the first half of last season on loan with Championship side Huddersfield Town before returning to Villa last January. He made a total of 14 appearances for the Terriers.
Whether Kesler-Hayden returns to Villa’s under-21s set-up for the remainder of the season or goes out on loan again remains to be seen. He was last included in a Villa first-team squad in January 2022 when he was an unused substitute in the Premier League game against Everton.
