Cooper Flagg didn’t sulk at home the day after Duke’s shocking Final Four loss to Houston on Saturday evening.
The No. 1 seed Blue Devils blew a 14-point lead against the No. 1 seed Cougars at the Final Four in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday evening. Duke appeared to be more than set to appear in the national title game on Monday evening, but Houston had other plans. Kelvin Sampson’s team finished the game on a shocking 11-1 run, securing a spot in Monday night’s title game, facing No. 1 Florida.Flagg, the likely No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, had 27 points in the Final Four loss, but it wasn’t enough.
“Frankly, the game, we did what we wanted to do,” head coach Jon Scheyer said postgame. “I thought our guys followed the game plan, controlled the game, we had the lead for 35 minutes, winning by six with a minute 15 to go. They made plays. You got to give ’em a ton of credit. We didn’t make those plays.
“You go from some of the most special moments in the tournament to the most heartbreaking loss. I’m not about to feel sorry for one second. These guys have done an incredible job. It’s heartbreaking. It’s incredibly disappointing. There’s a lot of pain that comes with this. That’s what the tournament is all about. You’re an inch away from the national championship game.”Unsurprisingly, the standout Duke Blue Devils freshman also has a pretty good golf swing.
“Good God, of course he’s ALSO good at golf,” one fan joked.
“It’s great therapy,” another fan wrote.
“First day of training for the NBA postseason with the Wizards,” another fan joked.
Flagg has yet to announce his 2025 NBA Draft decision, though he is widely expected to declare.
