The Blues got off to a flying start when Julian Alvarez scored after only 40 seconds, but the Copa Libetadores champions, who play a distinctive style under head coach Fernando Diniz, put them to the test. They pushed City early on and played out from the back when under pressure, keeping them in the game for the whole of the first half.

On a searing hot night, City ultimately took control, and an own goal by Nino before the break was followed by Phil Foden scoring 18 minutes from time to give Pep Guardiola’s amazing team a fifth title in 2023.

He was wasteful with the ball at times in the first half, particularly in the frenetic opening 20 minutes or so, but he defended solidly after that and used his pace nicely.

It was critical in assisting City in gaining control of the game. Although he was not as overpowering as he had been with his midfield dashes, his presence and passes helped them to establish a rhythm.

After a difficult few weeks, he had to perform his fair share of one-on-one defending and rose to the occasion admirably. Excellent performance. After assisting on the opening goal, he seemed a little unsure defensively. As City constructed assaults, he frequently found himself as the spare guy.

Despite being put under pressure, he had a rough start to the game but was the crucial man after City had it under lock and key. With a wonderful ball, he set up Foden’s score. Injury is a devastating blow.

At the age of 19, he was an English, European, and global champion. Guardiola’s faith in him was clear from the outset. Grew into the game and was given a kicking at times, particularly by Marcelo.City’s creator-in-chief had a reasonably productive night but never quite finished the final result. This week has been considerably better on the left.

As his boyhood club was crowned world champions, he created one and scored another. A fantastic night for a fantastic player. In the core sector, I took some good offensive positions. He had a running fight with the Fluminense defenders but never reached the heights he did on Tuesday. He was in space at times but wasn’t picked out.

Scored the first goal with a creative finish, assisted on the third with a pass driven across goal, and smashed in the fourth. Aside from that, I didn’t do anything, but neither does Haaland.
