Penn State wide receivers coach Marques Hagans is embracing a fresh start in 2025, determined to revitalize a position group that underperformed in recent seasons. After a 2024 campaign where the wide receivers struggled to make a significant impact, including a shutout in the Orange Bowl against Notre Dame, Hagans is focused on building a more dynamic and cohesive unit.
“We don’t live in the past,” Hagans stated, emphasizing the importance of moving forward and improving daily. He has been encouraged by the dedication and work ethic displayed by his players during spring practices, noting their commitment to playing for each other and striving for excellence.
To bolster the receiving corps, Penn State added transfers Devonte Ross from Troy and Kyron Hudson from USC. These additions aim to bring experience and depth to a group that saw the departure of its top two receivers from the previous season. Hagans acknowledges the need for continued growth and is open to further strengthening the position through the transfer portal if necessary.
Veteran receiver Liam Clifford remains a steady presence, providing leadership and guidance to younger teammates. Hagans praised Clifford’s selflessness and consistency, highlighting his role in mentoring the next generation of Penn State wideouts.
As the Nittany Lions prepare for the upcoming season, Hagans is instilling a culture of accountability and high standards within the wide receiver room. By fostering a competitive environment and emphasizing continuous improvement, he aims to transform the unit into a formidable component of Penn State’s offense in 2025.
