Penn State Wrestling Secures 2025 NCAA Championship, Cementing Dynasty Status
The Penn State Nittany Lions have once again proven why they are the gold standard in collegiate wrestling. With a commanding performance at the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships, the Lions secured yet another national title, continuing their era of dominance under head coach Cael Sanderson.
This latest championship marks the program’s 12th NCAA team title and the 11th under Sanderson’s leadership since he took over in 2009. The Nittany Lions overwhelmed the field with depth, star power, and tactical brilliance, finishing well ahead of powerhouses like Iowa, Michigan, and Cornell.
The team was led by a star-studded lineup featuring multiple individual champions. Carter Starocci etched his name into NCAA history by claiming his fifth individual national title, the first ever in collegiate wrestling history. Aaron Brooks continued his stellar collegiate career by earning another individual crown, and other standouts such as Levi Haines and Greg Kerkvliet brought home All-American honors to add critical points to the team total.
“It’s about building something bigger than yourself,” said Sanderson after the championship ceremony. “These guys have bought into the process, stayed humble, and worked hard every single day. I couldn’t be prouder.”
Penn State’s combination of elite recruiting, world-class coaching, and athlete development has solidified its position atop the wrestling world. This year’s team not only captured titles but did so with remarkable composure and unity.
As the Nittany Lions return to State College with the championship trophy, the focus will soon shift to preparing the next generation. But for now, the celebration belongs to the wrestlers, coaches, and fans who once again witnessed greatness from one of the most dominant programs in college sports.
