Ohio State Upsets No. 2 Michigan State with 4-2 Victory in Columbus

Columbus, Ohio“ The No. 11 Ohio State Buckeyes secured a 4-2 win over No. 2 Michigan State on Thursday night, thanks to a standout performance by goaltender Logan Terness and a strong defensive effort. Riley Thompson led the Buckeyes with two goals and an assist, while David Gucciardi and Karsen Dorwart found the net for the Spartans (20-4-3, 11-3-3 B1G).

Terness made an impact throughout the game, recording 35 saves, including 12 in each of the final two periods. Ohio State (16-7-2, 9-5-1 Big Ten) also benefited from 25 blocked shots by their defense, limiting Michigan State’s offensive opportunities.

Gunnarwolfe Fontaine scored the go-ahead goal from the high slot, and after an official review, the goal was confirmed. Later, Thomas Weis extended the Buckeyes  lead at 13:33, securing his second goal of the season.

Michigan State started strong, with David Gucciardi capitalizing on his own rebound to score early in the first period. However, Ohio State responded with a late-period goal, as Thompson redirected a shot past Trey Augustine (25 saves) to tie the game.

In the second period, Thompson struck again, this time scoring on a breakaway just after leaving the penalty box. Michigan State managed to even the score at 13:31 when Karsen Dorwart fired a shot from the left circle off a faceoff win by Matt Basgall, but the Buckeyes took over in the third period to seal the victory.
