Ohio State football is making significant changes to its coaching staff after winning the College Football Playoff National Championship. Following the departures of offensive coordinator Chip Kelly to the Las Vegas Raiders and defensive coordinator Jim Knowles to Penn State, the Buckeyes have a few key positions to fill.
On Wednesday, reports confirmed that Virginia Tech’s offensive coordinator, Tyler Bowen, will be joining Ohio State as the new offensive line coach. Bowen, who began his coaching career at Maryland, has a well-rounded coaching background. He has held roles at Towson, Penn State, and Fordham, and also served as tight ends coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021.
Bowen’s most recent role at Virginia Tech included serving as offensive coordinator and coaching tight ends and quarterbacks. With experience coaching offensive line at Fordham and Maryland, Bowen brings valuable experience to Ohio State, even though his primary expertise has expanded beyond the offensive line in recent years. The Buckeyes’ decision to hire Bowen, who has no direct ties to Ohio State, signals a strategic move to continue building on their championship success.
