Ohio Stadium was filled with fans and dignitaries on Sunday as Ohio State celebrated its 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship victory. The Buckeyes secured their first title since 2014 with a 34-23 win over Notre Dame, marking their third championship since 1970.
The event was especially significant for head coach Ryan Day, who overcame a tough regular-season loss to Michigan a game that brought intense scrutiny and even threats against him and his family. Despite the setback, Day rallied the Buckeyes to a dominant postseason performance, defeating top-10 teams Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame by an average of 17.5 points per game.
He is the Buckeye coach for years to come, said Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork during the celebration.
A Legacy of Success
With a remarkable 70-10 record at Ohio State, Day has consistently kept the program among the nation elite. While he faced criticism in recent years for close losses, the 2024 title run solidified his reputation. Ohio State president Ted Carter confirmed the school intent to secure Day long-term future, stating that contract extension talks are underway.
We don’t have any announcements yet, but we have intent,Carter told Eleven Warriors. Ryan wants to stay here, and we are working on the details.
A Team Effort
The celebration wasntjust about the coaching staff. Star defensive end Jack Sawyer brought humor to the event, joking about returning for a fifth season despite being out of eligibility. The Buckeyes defense, which saw several players turn down NFL opportunities to chase a championship, played a key role in the team success.
Ohio States commitment to excellence on and off the field was evident throughout the event, with players, staff, and fans united in celebrating the programs remarkable season and bright future under Day leadership.
