Ohio State Announces Major Changes to Spring Practice Format

After a historic season that saw the Ohio State Buckeyes claim their ninth national championship, the program is making some adjustments to its offseason schedule. Following a grueling 16-gamecampaign—the longest season in college football history—head coach Ryan Day is shifting the team’s approach to spring practice and the traditional Spring Game.

No Spring Game, But a New “Spring Showcase”

Ohio State has announced that instead of its usual Spring Game, it will host a Spring Showcase on April 12th. While details on the format remain unclear, the event is expected to provide fans with a look at the team’s development heading into the next season.

In another key change, Spring practice will begin on March 17th, after Spring Break. This adjustment eliminates the need to pause practice for the break, allowing for a more streamlined training period.

What This Means for the Buckeyes

The decision to forgo a traditional Spring Game raises questions, especially with an ongoing quarterback competition between Julian Sayin, Tavien St. Clair, and Lincoln Kienholz. However, with Day coming off a championship-winning season, he has earned the trust to make changes that best position the Buckeyes for success.

While some fans may be concerned about altering a system that just led to a national title, the Buckeyes are prioritizing player recovery and long-term development. As more details about the Spring Showcase emerge, updates will be provided on what to expect from this new format.
