Local Wide Receiver Commits to Florida Gators After Weekend Visit
The Florida Gators continue to build momentum on the recruiting trail, securing a major in-state commitment over the weekend. Local standout wide receiver Jayden Collins, a 4-star talent from Ocala (FL) Vanguard High School, announced his verbal pledge to the University of Florida shortly after wrapping up an official visit to Gainesville.
Collins, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound playmaker, has been on the Gators’ radar for months. His commitment marks a significant win for head coach Billy Napier and wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales, who made Collins a top priority in the 2025 class. Known for his route running, reliable hands, and explosive speed, Collins held offers from several top-tier programs including Miami, Florida State, Penn State, and Tennessee, but ultimately felt the Gators provided the best fit both on and off the field.
“Florida just felt like home,” Collins said in a statement posted to social media. “The coaching staff showed me real love, and the energy in The Swamp is different. I’m ready to rep my state and help bring championships back to Gainesville.”
The visit proved to be the tipping point for Collins’ decision. He toured the campus, spent extended time with the Gators’ staff, and even bonded with several current players and fellow recruits. According to sources close to his recruitment, Collins was particularly impressed by Florida’s academic support system, the revamped facilities, and Napier’s vision for the program.
“This weekend sealed it,” Collins told reporters. “I got to see what life as a Gator would really look like. I can make an impact early and grow in an environment where I’m supported in every way.”
Vanguard head coach Edwin Farmer praised Collins’ decision, emphasizing not just his talent but his leadership.
“Jayden’s been a leader since day one,” Farmer said. “He works like a pro, stays humble, and makes everyone around him better. Florida’s getting a great young man, not just a football player.”
Collins is coming off a junior season where he posted 62 receptions for 1,004 yards and 13 touchdowns. His ability to stretch the field and operate in the slot or outside makes him a versatile weapon. He is expected to be an early contributor once he arrives in Gainesville.
The Gators’ 2025 recruiting class now jumps to 12 total commitments, with Collins becoming the fourth receiver in the cycle. The pledge also sends a strong message to other in-state prospects that Florida is intent on locking down the Sunshine State’s best talent.
As recruiting heats up this summer, Florida’s staff will look to continue the momentum. For now, Collins’ commitment provides a major boost — both symbolically and strategically — as the Gators look to reclaim their place atop the SEC.
“Let’s build something special,” Collins wrote in his announcement. “Go Gators.”
