Kentucky lands ex-Alabama forward in transfer portal.
Mouhamed Dioubate might have left Alabama men’s basketball, but he didn’t leave the SEC.
The former Crimson Tide forward has committed to Kentucky, he announced Monday. Dioubate entered the transfer portal this past weekend.
The Queens, New York native spent the past two seasons with Alabama. The 6-7, 215-pound forward became known for his tough style of play, often winning the hard hat after wins the Crimson Tide gives to a player for scoring the most blue-collar points.This past season, Dioubate played in 33 games as a reserve. He averaged 16 minutes per game, 7.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.7 blocks and 0.9 steals while shooting 46.2% from beyond the arc. Dioubate wasn’t a volume shooter from deep, but when he attempted those shots, he often made them.
Dioubate’s most memorable game occurred in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2024, during Alabama’s Final Four run. In 13 minutes, he scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds while blocking two shots. Many of those occurred down the stretch in a rock fight of a game against Grand Canyon. Alabama coach Nate Oats has said on multiple occasions the Crimson Tide probably would not have won that game if not for the then-freshman forward.
Dioubate is one of two Alabama players so far to enter the transfer portal. Naas Cunningham, who redshirted all of the 2024-25 season, also put his name in the portal.
The Crimson Tide also will not bring back Mark Sears, Chris Youngblood, Grant Nelson and Clifford Omoruyi next season. All four starters exhausted their eligibility.Alabama will have plenty of new faces, though. The Crimson Tide has already added three transfer portal players in Bucknell’s Noah Williamson, Florida State’s Taylor Bol Bowen and Miami’s Jalil Bethea.
With about three roster spots left for 2025-26, Alabama still awaits official decisions from Derrion Reid, Labaron Philon and Jarin Stevenson. All have remaining eligibility.
