OFFICIAL: BYU Basketball Signs Four-Star Transfer Kennard Davis Jr.
BYU Basketball has officially landed a major addition to its 2025-26 roster with the signing of four-star transfer Kennard Davis Jr. The 6-foot-7 wing announced his commitment earlier this week, and the Cougars made it official today with a formal statement from the athletic department.
Davis, who played his first two collegiate seasons at the University of Illinois, brings size, athleticism, and scoring ability to a BYU squad looking to make a deeper impact in the Big 12. He averaged 9.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game last season while shooting 36% from beyond the arc. Known for his high motor and versatility, Davis was one of the most sought-after players in the transfer portal this spring, receiving interest from multiple Power Six programs before ultimately choosing BYU.
“I’m excited to be a part of Cougar Nation,” Davis said in a statement. “Coach Young and his staff made me feel like family from day one, and I believe BYU is the right place for me to take the next step in my career—both on and off the court.”
Head Coach Kevin Young, who is entering his first season at the helm of the Cougars, praised Davis for both his talent and character.
“Kennard is a special player,” Young said. “He has the size and skill to impact games on both ends of the floor, and he’s only beginning to tap into his potential. More importantly, he’s a high-character young man who fits the culture we’re building here at BYU.”
The addition of Davis addresses a key need for the Cougars, who are retooling their wing rotation after the departure of senior Trevin Knell and the NBA declaration of standout forward Jaxson Robinson. Davis’s ability to guard multiple positions and create offense from the perimeter will give BYU much-needed depth and flexibility.
Davis is expected to arrive in Provo later this summer to begin workouts with the team and integrate into the program’s system. With Davis joining a strong incoming class and several returning contributors, expectations are building for BYU to compete at a high level in the Big 12 and push for an NCAA Tournament berth.
For Cougar fans, the message is clear: BYU Basketball is not just rebuilding—it’s reloading.
