Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has some big selection decisions to make for Nottingham Forest’s key clash with West Ham United on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
The Reds are yet to register a Premier League victory in 2024 so will be eager to put that right against the Hammers at the City Ground. And a win could also help make the table look a little healthier as Forest remain just two points above the relegation zone.
Defensive errors have proved costly of late. The Reds look a threat at the top end of the pitch under Nuno, but the Portuguese is still working on tightening things up at the back.
Last weekend’s 3-2 defeat at home to Newcastle United was a case in point. The hosts were left frustrated at not getting anything out of the game after twice coming from behind to equalise.
Nuno was without a few players for that clash, but his options might be bolstered for Saturday. Ola Aina, Ibrahim Sangare and Willy Boly were expected to link back up with the squad this week after the end of the Africa Cup of Nations, although it remains to be seen whether they will be in contention to feature against David Moyes’ side. Below is how we think Forest will line up against West Ham.
How should the Reds line up against West Ham?
Matz Sels

The Reds need to stem the flow of goals. It would be huge if goalkeeper Matz Sels could keep a clean-sheet on Saturday, on what will be his third appearance for the club.
Neco Williams

Aina might be a possibility to come in at right or left-back, depending on how he is after returning from AFCON. But Neco Williams has put in a few big shifts lately and will hope to keep his place.
Moussa Niakhate

Nuno tweaked his back line last weekend by bringing in Moussa Niakhate for Andrew Omobamidele. Boly will no doubt push for a place in the near future, but the head coach might opt for a bit of continuity this Saturday – not least because Boly was not involved in the AFCON final.
Murillo

There was a bit of concern when Murillo required some treatment after picking up a knock in the first half against the Magpies. He was able to continue, though, and will likely have a big part to play against the Hammers.
Nuno Tavares

Nuno Tavares’ place in the side has been the subject of plenty of debate. Nuno seems to favour the Arsenal loanee as an attacking outlet over Harry Toffolo, but Aina will surely come into the equation at some point.
