NITTANY LIONS ALL OVER AWARD WATCH LISTS AS PRESEASON HONORS ROLL IN
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The hype around Penn State football continues to grow, as multiple Nittany Lions have landed on prestigious preseason award watch lists, showcasing the program’s depth of talent on both sides of the ball.
From the trenches to the skill positions, Penn State players are being recognized nationally as potential candidates for some of college football’s top individual honors.
Leading the Charge
Quarterback Drew Allar has been named to the Maxwell Award watch list, given annually to the nation’s most outstanding player. Allar’s size, arm strength, and leadership have him pegged as one of the Big Ten’s most exciting stars heading into 2025.
Running back Nicholas Singleton earned a spot on the Doak Walker Award list, highlighting the best running back in the country. With his speed and big-play ability, Singleton is expected to be a centerpiece of Penn State’s offense.
Strength in the Trenches
On the line, Olavavega Ioane (offensive guard) and Zane Durant (defensive tackle) have both been recognized on their respective positional watch lists. Ioane is a candidate for the Outland Trophy, awarded to the nation’s best interior lineman, while Durant is a name to watch for the Nagurski Trophy (top defensive player).
Building a Complete Roster
The Lions also placed standouts on lists for tight end, linebacker, and defensive back awards, reflecting the team’s balance across the roster. The wave of recognition reinforces Penn State’s status as a legitimate College Football Playoff contender this season.
The Big Picture
For head coach James Franklin, the preseason accolades are proof of the program’s growth and national respect. But with expectations sky-high, the Lions will look to turn watch list buzz into postseason trophies and a run at the Big Ten title.
